2023 Technology Trends Report

2023 Technology Trends Report

Hyperautomation, metaverse, blockchain — which technologies will shape 2023?

The pandemic has certainly left a huge impact on innovation: while prolonged lockdowns may have slowed down the patenting activity and to some extent, product development activities of some organizations, it has also spurred innovators to develop new technologies and accelerate innovations that can help mitigate the impact of COVID-19.

We took a closer look at various technology trends in recent years and looked at their 10-year patent landscapes. We identified and mapped out the emerging trends from these tech areas that are already out in the market, and examined the patents being filed and granted in the last two years.

From our report: IBM comes out strong — the tech giant emerges as the top assignee in 8 out of 10 technology areas. Machine Learning seems to be the center of innovation, having the most number of patents and applications in the U.S. in the 10-year period. We also identified Sustainable Technology (green solutions such as for energy, climate, IT, and supply chain.) and Gene Editing (CRISPR-Cas9) to gain more ground in 2023.
