The Challenge
A leading global technology company required a comprehensive patent invalidity search involving wireless gateway and multi-mode communication technologies. The engagement required identifying prior art relevant to devices capable of operating across multiple wireless communication systems while seamlessly transitioning between different networking modes.
The asserted patent addressed sophisticated wireless networking concepts, including devices capable of communicating with multiple wireless networks, dynamically switching between communication modes, and functioning as gateways that route data between disparate wireless systems.
Because these technologies emerged during the rapid evolution of Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, cellular data, and ad hoc networking, the search required an extensive review of historical patents, technical publications, industry standards, and networking research published before the patent’s priority date.
Particular attention was given to identifying prior art describing dual-mode operation, simultaneous wireless communications, gateway routing, and intelligent controller architectures.
The Solution
We conducted comprehensive invalidity search spanning worldwide patent literature, technical journals, standards-related publications, conference proceedings, and non-patent literature.
During the initial stages of our search, we evaluated nearly 200 technical references covering Bluetooth, IEEE 802.11 wireless networking, GPRS, UMTS, HomeRF, wireless gateways, and mobile communication architectures.
Each reference was carefully analyzed against the asserted claim limitations, with particular focus on multi-mode controllers, simultaneous network operation, gateway functionality, and seamless transitions between wireless communication systems.
