We were engaged by a leading global technology company to challenge the validity of a non-English patent covering wireless network authentication and secure communications.

This engagement centered on a Chinese patent with complex claim limitations relating to mutual authentication between wireless devices, network access points, and authentication servers.

Because the technology was rooted in the evolution of wireless networking standards, the search required investigating historical patents, academic publications, industry standards, technical white papers, and networking protocols from around the world. Particular emphasis was placed on locating references describing certificate-based authentication, trusted network access, secure key establishment, and encrypted wireless communications before the patent’s priority date.

The Solution

We performed a comprehensive multilingual search spanning worldwide patent literature, technical conference proceedings, standards documents, Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) drafts, wireless security publications, and vendor technical documentation, reviewing more than 100 references against the asserted claim limitations.
