Balanced innovation portfolio
Delivered a two-tier product strategy combining scalable consumer solutions with advanced clinical performance technologies.
The Challenge
A global health technology company approached us with a clear challenge: identify a new teeth-whitening delivery mechanism. The objective required more than incremental improvements, it demanded identification of novel delivery mechanisms that were both scientifically validated and commercially scalable.
The client also needed clarity on where true innovation opportunities existed, while also ensuring alignment with patentability, freedom-to-operate (FTO), and real-world adoption constraints.
The Solution
To support this objective, we conducted a targeted technology landscape assessment, combining white space analysis from both US and non-US sources. Our team examined hundreds of scientific journals, patent filings, and technical publications across multiple jurisdictions to evaluate both established and emerging approaches in teeth whitening delivery systems.
Our research identified two highly promising and complementary innovation pathways:
This dual recommendation created a strategic balance between near-term market feasibility and differentiated technical advantage. The non-hardware solution aligned closely with proven consumer product formats already accepted in the market, while the plasma-based system represented a more advanced innovation supported by published evidence demonstrating effective whitening performance in short treatment times with favorable safety characteristics.
Importantly, our recommendations were not limited to technical feasibility alone. We also evaluated:
The resulting strategy gave the client a two-tier innovation opportunity: a scalable consumer-friendly solution for maintenance and stain prevention, paired with a higher-performance platform capable of delivering professional-grade whitening outcomes. Together, these approaches offered a differentiated value proposition beyond existing commercial products.
This project demonstrates our ability to translate complex scientific and intellectual property landscapes into actionable innovation strategies that align technical opportunity with business goals.
Our Impact
Exploring new product innovation opportunities but unsure where real white space exists?
The challenge
Identify a novel, patentable teeth-whitening delivery system that balances scientific credibility with commercial viability.
Why it worked
Integrated IP and technology intelligence
We combined global patent landscape analysis with scientific validation to identify innovation pathways grounded in both technical feasibility and market relevance.
