Cross-disciplinary expertise
Assembled a team with expertise in pharmaceutical patents, chemistry, and life sciences.
The Challenge
We were engaged by a European patent attorney representing one of the world’s leading pharmaceutical companies to conduct an invalidity search supporting a planned opposition before the European Patent Office (EPO), against a high-value patent covering a targeted cancer therapy.
The patent claimed a specific combination of well-established therapeutic compounds. The challenge wasn’t finding prior art on the compounds themselves, but locating references disclosing their combined therapeutic use before the patent’s priority date.
The Solution
We assembled a team with expertise in pharmaceutical patents, chemistry, and life sciences to conduct a comprehensive search of worldwide patent literature and related scientific publications. Working closely with the client, our researchers refined the search strategy to identify references addressing the specific drug combination and therapeutic application at issue.
Our approach included:
Our impact
The search identified multiple highly relevant prior art references, including two U.S. patents and two PCT patent publications that disclosed key aspects of the claimed invention. These references provided the client with a strong technical foundation for evaluating and supporting its planned EPO opposition.
Preparing an EPO patent opposition?
Pharmaceutical patent oppositions often hinge on identifying highly specific disclosures buried within an extensive body of scientific and patent literature. Parola Analytics can help uncover strategically important prior art for complex life sciences inventions, helping leading pharmaceutical companies make informed decisions in high-value patent disputes.
The challenge
A leading pharmaceutical company needed prior art on a specific drug combination to support a planned EPO opposition.
Why it worked
Expert-led patent search
Combining pharmaceutical, chemistry, and life sciences expertise uncovered references disclosing the exact drug combination at issue.
