The Challenge
A nationally acclaimed U.S. law firm required support for a patent litigation involving air mattress and medical bed technologies. The engagement focused on conducting comprehensive prior art research relating to valve assemblies within pressurized enclosures and adjustable air mattress systems used in therapeutic and medical support surfaces.
The litigation required extensive prior art searches addressing highly specific claim limitations across two distinct technologies.
This first patent describes an improved electric pump and valve assembly for inflatable mattresses that uses solenoid-actuated valves and continuous pressure sensing to regulate air pressure. The redesigned valve architecture improves pressure control while reducing air leakage, power consumption, and heat generation.
This second patent describes an adjustable air mattress that uses independently controlled air chambers and a multi-compartment support system to provide personalized comfort and improved body support.
After our review, we knew that the search would require distinguishing the claimed valve control architecture from well-established pneumatic and pressure-control technologies.
